Why oversimplify?

Every explanation is wrong somewhere.

Ours are just honest about where. Here’s the idea behind the show.

  1. Most explanations start in the wrong place

They start with the details, because the details are what experts find interesting. But you can’t hang a detail on anything until you have the rough shape of the idea. So we start with the rough shape and stop there, mostly.

  2. Simple first, right later

A good simple explanation is like a map of a city on a napkin. It leaves out almost everything, and it still gets you to the station. Once you know where the station is, the real map makes a lot more sense.

  3. The bit we left out

Simplifying means cutting corners, and we’d rather show you which ones. Every episode ends with What we left out: the caveats, the exceptions and the parts an expert would wince at, so you know where to dig next.
